Nicole Pietzonka a qualified aerobics instructor demonstrates a dymamic exercise program
using RESIST-A-BAND®. A series of six different exercises that can be done in a matter of no time at all.
What sort of clothing should you wear? -
- Wear lose comfortable cloths with no sharp objects (belt buckles, rings etc.), and avoid shoes
with sharp edges or a rough profile as this could tear the RESIST-A-BAND®. Also ensure that there are no sharp objects
around the area were you exercise. It is recommended that you exercise in front of a mirror if possible, as it helps
you control co-ordination.
What you should know - before using RESIST-A-BAND®
- RESIST-A-BAND® comes in four different strengths (weights).
- Choose the right level of resistance appropriate to your level of fitness.
- Beginners should start with the minimum resistance RAB II.
As you improve and the exercises get easier you can increase the level of resistance.
By making the start distance smaller and pulling further this will make the exercise harder. You can also double the RESIST-A-BAND® making a loop, which in turn will double the resistance that you are pulling. Then of course you can purchase a RESIST-A-BAND® of a higher strength.
- Choice of band strength:
If you are unable to do as many as 6-8 exercise repetitions, the resistance is too high, choose a thinner band, or lengthen the band. If you can do more than 15 repetitions, the resistance is too low, choose a stronger band, or shorten or double up the band.
- Increasing the resistance (with a stronger band or by shortening the band) should never be done at the cost of correct performance of the exercise movements.
- Only exercise as far as your level of fitness will allow, don't over do it.
- Always do a warm-up before any exercise program, making circles with your shoulders, or arms, walking on the spot.
- When exercising make continuous slow deliberate movements.
- Don't exercise with abrupt jerky quick pulls, this sort of movement does not tone muscles, it is more likely to cause a sprain.
- Be aware of your breathing. Breathe slowly and evenly: breathe IN when releasing the band and breathe OUT when pulling the band. Never hold your breath when exercising.
- After each exercise, stretch the
muscle that has just been trained.
Holding RESIST-A-BAND® correctly
- The wrist should always be straight, meaning that the back of the hand and forearm should be straight aligned. Bending at the wrist can cause damage to the sinuose
- Use the full width of RESIST-A-BAND® so as not to cut of the blood supply in the hand.
- Never pull RESIST-A-BAND® in the direction of your face, in case you let go and it flys at you.
- Ensure that RESIST-A-BAND® is held
securely during exercises and knots can not slip.
The right body posture
With your feet slightly apart, distribute your weight evenly on both legs.
Tighten stomach and butt muscles.
Bend slightly at the knees remembering to keep your back straight.
Exercises Sitting:
It is very important to keep your knees slightly apart.
There should be an angle of
approximately 100° between the calf and thigh.
Keeping your RESIST-A-BAND® in good order
- RESIST-A-BAND® is made from natural rubber. If you are allergic to latex or other natural proteins, consult your doctor before using this product.
If you are allergic to latex we would recommend Resist-A-Band Latex Free bands which are in three different strengths (weights) available.
- Always take out the knots after use and roll up or hang it somewhere. The RESIST-A-BAND®
carrier bag is the ideal place to store your Band.
- Keep RESIST-A-BAND® away from heat and the sun. Coating RESIST-A-BAND® with talc occasionally will
make it last longer.
- Be careful not to tear RESIST-A-BAND® with sharp objects: long fingernails or rings.
Band Care Set
For use with all exercise bands - Using talc regularly, will help prolong the life of your band.
1. Place your Band in the plastic bag.
2. Put some powder into the bag so the band is lightly dusted.
3. Seal the plastic bag.
4. Shake the bag in order to distribute the powder.
5. Remove the freshly powdered band from the bag.
6. Roll the band up neatly, and store it away.
